What is Digital Divide?

Digital divide is often referred to as the "gap" that has been created by the emergence of modern technology in people's life today. This is because in as much as technology is a welcome development and an enhancement to today's lifestyle, it is also proving to be a problem. The problem comes from either having it or not having it. It is a problem if people have it and do not know how to put it to good use because it is new to them. On the other hand if they do not have, it can be a problem because they are missing out on something that could improve their lives.

The digital divide does not only affect individuals but it affects a community, a country, continent and ends up being a worldwide problem. Everyone ends up being affected because it is the technology that keeps people connected and if there is a breakdown somewhere, then there is bound to be confusion in people's lives. If a community or even a country cannot share some of its resources equally among themselves, then there is always going to be that gap between those who have access and those who do not.
